FAQs

Is therapy for me?

Most people think they need a clearly defined reason or something has to be majorly wrong to pursue therapy.

In reality, many people start therapy because they just aren’t feeling like themselves anymore. Something doesn’t seem quite right, and they can’t put their finger on it.

How do I prepare for my first session?

Other than intake paperwork, there is not much preparation necessary.

It might be helpful for you to consider what you would like to accomplish in therapy, but if you’re not sure, this is something you and your therapist can figure out together.

What does the therapy process look like?

It would be wonderful if there were a formula or manual to answer this question, but in reality, therapy looks different for every person. You and your therapist will choose a goal to work towards, but the path to get there will not be linear. Navigating the human experience is complex and difficult but it is something you will not have to figure out alone.

How do I find a therapist?

Other than word of mouth recommendations, the Psychology Today online database is a great way to find a therapist. You can search with filters for location, preferred gender, insurance, and issues. After narrowing down with those filters, reading profiles can be helpful to see if someone sounds like a good fit. The next biggest obstacle is finding someone with availability that matches yours. Then comes the chemistry- it’s important to find a therapist who makes you feel at ease. Unfortunately, it can take a few tries before finding the right person. We know this is a lot of work! We encourage all clients to evaluate goodness of fit for themselves in the first few sessions. Your therapy process will be most effective if you have someone who is the right fit for you.

What can I expect from the first session?

In the first session, your therapist will want to gather information about your history and how you got to this current point in life. Every person is a sum of their experiences and context is important to understand who you are. You also may have time in your first session to discuss what it is you want to work towards in therapy. Please set aside 60 minutes for your initial and ongoing sessions.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Before scheduling, we offer a brief 15 minute phone consultation to see if you and your therapist would be a good fit in terms of what you are seeking therapy for. You can contact us here to set this up. During the initial consultation, if you and your therapist are a good fit, they will schedule and provide further instructions for your first appointment.

How does telehealth work?

We are not seeing clients in-person at this time and instead use a virtual, HIPAA compliant telehealth platform to meet with clients. Due to licensing laws, clients must be physically in Ohio at the time of sessions. During the first session you and your therapist will discuss a plan in the event that the connection is interrupted.

What is your availability?

We currently have availability daytime, evenings, and weekends, depending on the therapist and by appointment only.
